The Kitchen Table Series
There are cycles of cleansing and filth, air, life, the daily grind, sin and forgiveness, seasons of the year, things going in and coming out, piling up and being put away. The ongoing nature of these cycles contain both the transitional and repetitive nature of the human condition. In one of my drawing projects, “The Kitchen Table Series” I engage these loops by drawing daily in my house with my breakfast, coffee and the angled morning light. I intentionally doodled about the space I was in– food, drains, faucets, light, barriers from the elements, transparency that brings them closer together–and also the memories that came from that–my bedroom from when I was a kid, the leftovers that might be in the refrigerator, the puddle on the floor in the basement. This automatistic method brought about subconscious understanding that often inspires my sculpture.
